Service Shines at Family-owned Robinson Jewelers

Robinson Jewelers is family-owned.
They just don’t make stores like Robinson Jewelers anymore. In these times of outsourcing and automated customer service‚ it’s nice to know that when you walk into Robinson Jewelers‚ your business will be taken care of in-house.
“We handle everything we do right here in the store‚” says Mike Robinson‚ president of the firm. “When you come in‚ if you want to talk to the boss‚ you can talk to the boss. If you want to talk to the fellow who’s going to be working on your jewelry‚ you can do that. We make ourselves very accessible.”
Surely that’s the way Mike’s dad‚ Floyd G. Robinson‚ would want it. After getting out of the Navy in 1946‚ Floyd trained as a jeweler and consequently opened Robinson’s in 1969. Today‚ Mike’s son‚ Justin‚ 22‚ is the third generation to work in the store.
“It was a given‚” Mike says. “I started – and Justin did also – when we were 7 or 8 years old. We started engraving. I’ve got pictures of Justin when he was young. He’d come in the store‚ and he was bored‚ so we put him on the engraving machine. He just had a knack for it.” Today‚ Justin is responsible for goldsmithing‚ metal work and stone setting.
Robinson’s service and attitude combine the best of old-fashioned values‚ but the store is also on the cutting edge of new technology. Mike Robinson says the store is the only one in the area with a state-of-the-art laser welder to repair jewelry. “It’s a much better way to make repairs‚” he says.
Greenville residents will be able to count on that kind of service for a long time coming.
“The store has grown up with the families around Greenville‚” Mike Robinson says. “Our customers are our family. That’s the way it has been‚ and that’s the way we intend to keep it.”
